Add Temp to Improve Your ROI

Dear Barb:

I place engineers only in permanent positions and everyone keeps telling me I should get into the temporary business. I’d love your input.

Dear Pamela:

My answer would depend on your specific exit plan. If you plan to sell your company in the future, you will receive a much greater ROI if you have a blended business model.

What you want to enter is the high margin contract business. You are also working in a niche where there is a very high demand for contractors (i.e. engineering). One third of the workforce is going to retire in the next 15 years. There are not nearly enough students in engineering programs in colleges worldwide to make up for this loss of talent. You are in a great niche; just give the engineering contract business some consideration.

If and when you decide to sell your business, you will be thankful that you decided on a blended business model.
