Believe You Can and You Will

Dear Barb:

My husband wants to move to Florida because of the weather, I don’t want to start all over again developing my business. I work from home in Kansas City and have established a nice client base in Missouri. I’ve always met my candidates in person and feel that this has helped me make better matches for my clients. I specialize in high level financial positions. Do you think it’s necessary to personally interview candidates, or am I being old fashion? Is it unrealistic to think I can live in Ft. Lauderdale, but place in Missouri?

Dear Judy:

You are an established recruiter with an established reputation. If you’ve done the job right, you will not lose your clients or candidates. Many of your candidates are probably referred to you. This comes down to “If you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right!” I think it is very likely that you could move to Ft. Lauderdale and still service your clients in Missouri. However, if you don’t think it will work – it won’t.

Much is in the way you present this to yourself, your clients and your candidates. If you have a computer and a telephone, you basically can conduct business from anywhere. Skype interviews are the next best thing to face-to-face and less time consuming.

You now have to present the benefits of your decision to yourself, your clients and your candidates. If you believe this will work – it will. Just don’t discuss the weather with your clients once you move.
