When Careerbuilder bought Broadbean, I said it was “part of CareerBuilder’s goal of moving from a job board to a more sweeping software provider.”
There’s more of that now.
The Broadbean purchase, and other CareerBuilder moves over the years like the purchase of a labor data company, are leading the company further down the “we’re not just a job board” road, one that continues with today’s launch.
CareerBuilder’s wrapping all it’s got together into what it calls CareerBuilder1. The software includes job distribution, sourcing, its popular talent community, the labor data I mentioned, supply-and-demand info, a matching tool for candidates and jobs, and analytics.
Another way of saying it: it’s an applicant tracking system. Sure, CareerBuilder has had a system before, but this is more of it, packaged together.

The company’s still selling job-board posts, of course, but CEO Matt Ferguson tells me the company is putting a lot of energy into this hiring system; closing six deals, for example, just last week.
Most buyers are in the U.S., he says, with others in Europe and Asia. They’re mainly mid- to upper-market companies; that is, not the Fortune 100 but more like several-thousand-employee firms. As time goes on, CareerBuilder hopes to move up to more of the very-big corporation sales.
