Google Lays Off 100 Recruiters

Google is canning 100 recruiters. In a company blog post, Google wrote that it “is still hiring but at a reduced rate. Given the state of the economy, we recognized that we needed fewer people focused on hiring.”

The company also plans to close three engineering offices in in Austin, Texas; Trondheim, Norway; and Lulea, Sweden.

There are also reports that Google will terminate Google Catalog Search, user-generated Google Video; Google Notebook; Twitter rival Dodgeball, and a couple other applications.

  1. This is NOT a complaint about the article…It is a comment on what it says…This is just one of those things that seems irrelevant. I never knew Google had them and won’t notice them gone. Irrelevant is not even the right word. Maybe mystifying is better. The phrase “Who ARE these people?” comes to mind. That also pops into my head when I take my daughters to swimming and drive past hundreds of houses that have to cost 2 or 3 times ours…I am not bragging when I say the new administration says we are rich… I just hear that phrase in my head.In a sad effort to tie this together somehow… I guess the people in the houses aren’t Google recruiters…
