It’s Time to Have a Genuine Discussion About Diversity

When I discuss diversity recruitment, someone always asks, “Why should I use diversity sites?” or “I have plenty of candidates apply to my jobs. Why take the extra time to try to source specifically for diversity candidates?”

I can think of many good reasons. Here are a few:

Every 1 percent rise in the rate of diversity is associated with an increase in sales revenue of between 3 percent and 9 percent.

Increased Company Revenue and Innovation

Companies who are more ethnically diverse are 30 percent more likely to have above-average financial returns. Those who led in gender diversity were 15 percent more profitable, according to a McKinsey study on the relationship between diversity and company performance. A diverse team of employees present diverse perspectives, which fuels creative fires and leads to innovation.

A More Qualified Candidate Pool

According to Torin Ellis, a leader in diversity strategy, in the war for talent, reaching diversity channels allows you to attract and onboard talent that contribute to building an incredible team.  Which leads to (expanded) effective and efficient delivery of products, services and longevity as a company.  These candidates are often missed when using mainstream searches.

Better Candidate Attraction Makes Your Job Easier

In a study by Glassdoor: “A full 67 percent of active and passive job seekers said that a diverse workforce is an important factor when evaluating companies and job offers.”

That means that whether or not your company is interested in increasing its diversity, chances are that candidates are evaluating diversity when they research your company and during the interview process.

The survey found that 72 percent of women consider workforce diversity important, and 62 percent of men. It also found that 89 percent of black respondents, 80 percent of Asians, and 70 percent of Latinos said it was important to them.

What’s more, a significant majority of white respondents say workforce diversity is important. So whether you’re hiring for diversity or not, diversity and inclusion should be something you take into account when evaluating your entire recruiting process.”

Increased revenue, more qualified candidates, and, it makes your job easier. Sound good?
