Thanks Todd – When it works I think the advantages are obvious for both company and employee but the one thing you didn’t discuss with Jordan Schwartz is how disciplined the type of employee must be to work remotely. It only works if the right candidate can apply him or herself to that work from home mentality. Many can’t and their productivity improves only when leaving the home and sharing a work space with other colleagues. The ability to identify these traits in the right candidate is key in making this work.

    1. Agreed. So many people talk about managing remote workers as if the key is controlling them and making sure they are always working and meetings and check ins and on and on…too little attention to hiring self motivated people.
