The Two SEO Queries That Recruiters Should Care About

Over 30 percent of Google searches are related to job searches. But, the majority of these search results are completely dominated by Indeed, LinkedIn, Monster, and the many other job boards out there.

That said, there are two queries that the majority of job seekers use in their job search where most companies can rank high quite easily.

Job seekers will type “{{Company}} Careers” into Google to get to the jobs page of a given company. Unfortunately, Google has realized it can make a pretty penny by putting its new Google Jobs product into these rankings.  Companies need to own this search engine real estate so that job seekers interested in their company don’t go to Google Jobs and get distracted by a competitor’s job listing.

Job seekers will also type “Working at {{Company}}” into Google to get more information about the culture of a company. These rankings are traditionally dominated by Glassdoor and other review sites. Clearly, it’s better for the company to drive this traffic to pages they control.

Here are a few quick tips on how to control these search results, for free:

  • Create a Quora question about what it’s like to work at your company, and then have your employees answer it.
  • Build a microsite on your careers site with the title “Working at {{Company}}” that is full of culture information.
  • Write posts on Medium or LinkedIn about working at your company.
